I m not favouring one brand over the other just sharing my experience in the hope of helping other crafters prevent a similar situation.

The mat starts out waaaayyy too sticky and it will eat your paper or the backing on your vinyl.
The settings in silh studio or that you get from others are suggested starting points.

When the cutting mat is new however it can be too sticky for certain material such as paper and paper backed materials such as adhesive vinyl.
If too sticky pat your hands on the mat all over.
I bought the cricut mats because they were half the price of the silhouette mats.
This will deposit a little bit of lint and weaken the adhesive layer a bit.
Mine was and i found myself super frustrated because none of my vinyl was sticking to my mat.
If your cutting mat is too sticky brayer an old bath towel over it.
Then it quickly goes to not sticky enough.
You should do your own test cuts to determine what is right for your machine blade material climate etc.

I found scrubbing my mat with a scrub sponge with dish soap let dry.

Pat a cotton shirt on it a few times it will pick up some of the lint fibers from the shirt and lessen the stickiness.
